Dyslexia
Dyslexia is the capacity to process information differently, enabling innovative thought and perception. It is characterised by a visual and experiential learning style. Teaching and learning through a visual and experiential learning style allows dyslexic people to realise their capabilities, and minimise the negative impact commonly developed by conventional methods (Brenda Baird, 2011).
• Poor spelling
• Slow reading
• Low reading comprehension
• Auditory processing confusion
• Writing letters or numbers backwards
• Difficulty with maths
• Confusion with left and right
• Difficulty organising themselves
• Difficulty remembering things
Identifying dyslexia at an early age can allow parents to adapt their child’s learning environment to enable them to succeed. Dyslexia is a sensory perceptual difference which leads to differences within performance. With learning adaptations, students with dyslexia can succeed at University and within business. Due to the difference within their brains wiring and how individuals function, corporations like Nasa prefer to employ individuals with dyslexia according to world renown dyslexic expert Gavin Reid. Some of the most talented and gifted individuals in the world have dyslexia but school life can still be troublesome.

Famous people identified within the media as having Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a sensory perception disorder that tends to be inherited however it can be acquired through neurological damage. A head injury or meningitis can impact on an individual’s sensory perceptions which can lead to a child exhibiting dyslexic traits.
While Dyslexia can be an ongoing lifelong challenge, individuals tend to build learning and coping strategies to succeed. Recognising these learning differences at a young age can help individuals to re-structure the way they read, listen, write and plan their learning pathway.
