At Educational Assessments, our psychologists are able to carry out full cognitive assessments. These provide essential learning and performance data, with an aim to bolster support. If you believe that you or a loved one has dyslexia, get in touch. Our specialists offer dyslexia testing on the Gold Coast. The assessments themselves also cover a variety of language and visual-spatial tests.
Our team are passionate about supporting children and adults.
We want to make a positive impact on our client’s lives and aim to do so as soon as possible. This is because educational impairments require an inordinate amount of time and support. So, the sooner we can help detect whether they have any difficulties, the better.
What is dyslexia?
Dyslexia is an impairment that affects reading or interpreting words, letters or symbols. It is not, however, indicative of the individual’s comprehension. In fact, bright children with dyslexia often go undiagnosed. Why? Because they develop coping strategies and other skills to grasp contextual information.
Dyslexia is characterised by:
Confusion relating to auditory processing
Continual disorientation of letters or numbers
Difficulty when it comes to spelling
Hampered reading comprehension
Misunderstanding between left and right
Dyslexia must be correctly diagnosed as it can coexist with other impairments. These can include dyscalculia, dyspraxia or ADHD. Those with dyslexia might be frustrated and struggle with their mental wellbeing. However, after undergoing testing at Gold Coast, many leave with a sense of relief. That’s because a conclusive report can dispel misconceptions they might have once had. For example, they might have believed they were less intelligent than their peers. Yet once tested, a report indicates the strengths and weaknesses of the individual. Once at this level of understanding, we can investigate alternative learning practices. We do this because going forward we tailor a strategy that’s better suited to the individual’s needs. Testing is a worthwhile investment as this alone can improve education and future career prospects.
