What is ADHD?

ADHD is indicative of attention, concentration, impulsivity and/or hyperactivity problems. Children and adults can be treated with a combination of therapy and medication. However, ADHD that isn’t managed or diagnosed can have a detrimental effect. It can affect an individual’s long-term behaviour or their emotional and learning skills. If you believe you or your child might exhibit symptoms, contact Educational Assessments. Our Brisbane clinic can help determine if you meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This way, we can deliver much-need help and support.

How do I get a diagnosis?

Diagnosing ADHD can be tricky. Its symptoms are synonymous with several other medical and behavioural problems. With this in mind, our psychologist’s aims are to ascertain whether the individual at hand has ADHD. This way, we can connect you or your loved one with the right treatments. Due to the nature of the individual’s difficulties with attention, an assessment would take place over several sessions. This way, we avoid fatiguing the individual at hand and do our best to eliminate any undue stress.

The diagnosis process involves an interview, behavioural observations and a cognitive assessment. The aim of which, would rule out any other learning disorders – such as dyslexia or dyspraxia. After reaching a diagnosis at our Brisbane clinic, we can provide relevant support. We also offer ADHD diagnoses outside of our Brisbane clinic and are able to carry out home visits.
